DIDI DADA DI Rainy Day: My First Illustrated Storybook with Music & Nursery Rhymes

A Rainy Day, A Spark of Inspiration

Rainy days have always carried a unique rhythm—some find them gloomy, while others see them as a moment of quiet reflection. But for a child, a rainy day is an invitation to imagine. Watching raindrops race down the window, listening to the pitter-patter on the roof, and feeling the cool mist in the air—all these little moments weave a magical story.

DIDI DADA DI Rainy Day was born from this very idea. It is my first-ever creation, a book that captures the joy and curiosity of childhood through whimsical illustrations, playful storytelling, and original music and nursery rhymes. More than just a story, it is an experience—a journey through sound, sight, and imagination, inviting children and parents to see rainy days in a brand-new light.

The Beginning of My Creative Journey as Luz Qi

I never planned to become a storyteller or an illustrator, but I have always been drawn to the beauty of everyday life. I love capturing fleeting childhood moments—the twinkle in my children’s eyes, the laughter that fills our home, and the quiet wonder in their expressions when they discover something new.

It was in 2018, during a rainy afternoon, that I felt a spark of inspiration. While sitting by the window with my daughters, watching the raindrops dance on the glass, my eldest, Rose Mary, started humming a tune. I listened closely, enchanted by the way she transformed a simple rainy day into a melody.

That moment stayed with me. What if rain could be a song? What if a rainy day could become an adventure?

And so, I began writing and illustrating. This was my own creation—every word, every stroke of color, every note of music came from me. It was a deeply personal project, marking the start of my journey as a creator under the name Luz Qi.

From Raindrops to Melodies: The Birth of the Story

The story follows the Crown Girls, two sisters who refuse to let the rain keep them indoors. Instead, they embrace the adventure—jumping in puddles, feeling the raindrops on their faces, and discovering the hidden beauty that only a rainy day can reveal. The sound of the rain becomes music, and the rhythm of nature turns into a playful melody.

To make this story even more immersive, I composed original nursery rhymes and melodies to accompany the book. I wanted children to not just read, but also listen and sing along, creating a multi-sensory storytelling experience.

This was where my family’s support became invaluable. My daughter, Rose Mary, recorded her voice for the songs, bringing them to life with her innocent and joyful singing. My husband supported me in practical ways—helping me purchase materials, setting up my workspace, and encouraging me every step of the way. But the entire creation—the storytelling, illustration, and music—was my own work.

Overcoming Challenges as a First-Time Creator

Creating my first book was far from easy. As a self-taught creator, I had to navigate an entirely new world—learning how to illustrate, structure a story, and integrate music into the narrative.

There were moments of frustration, moments of doubt. Late at night, after putting my children to bed, I would sit at my desk, staring at my sketches, wondering if they were good enough. I wanted this book to be more than just a story—I wanted it to be a memory, a piece of childhood that families could cherish together.

I learned to trust the process, to embrace imperfections, and to pour my heart into every stroke, every word, and every note of music.

A Family Creation, A Personal Achievement

Although this was my independent creation, my family’s encouragement meant everything. My husband didn’t create the book, but he supported me in making it possible. My daughter didn’t write the songs, but her voice added warmth and life to the melodies.

Their presence reminded me why I create—not just for myself, but to capture the love and moments we share as a family.

The Moment It Became Real: Reader Reactions

When the book was finally finished, I felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness. Would children love it? Would parents connect with it?

The first time I read DIDI DADA DI Rainy Day aloud to my daughters, I watched their faces light up. They hummed along with the music, pointed at the illustrations, and giggled at the playful rhymes. That was the moment I knew—this book had done exactly what I had hoped.

Soon, other parents started sharing their experiences. They told me how their children looked forward to rainy days, how they danced to the melodies, and how they found comfort in the gentle rhythm of the story. Some even said it became a bedtime favorite, a story they read together as a family.

That, to me, was the greatest reward. Knowing that my first book had touched lives, even in the smallest way, made all the late nights and challenges worth it.

The Start of Something Bigger

DIDI DADA DI Rainy Day is more than just a book—it is the beginning of my creative journey. It is proof that storytelling has the power to connect, comfort, and inspire.

As I continue to create, I carry the lessons I learned from this book:

  • That creativity is a journey, not a destination.
  • That every story has the power to touch a heart.
  • That even the simplest moments—like a rainy day—can become something extraordinary.

This is just the beginning. I hope to continue capturing childhood’s fleeting magic, turning everyday moments into timeless stories. And through it all, I hope my work will bring joy, inspiration, and warmth to families around the world.
